Spiritual Direction
The ministry of spiritual direction has its origins in human beings throughout history offering one another companionship and counsel when seeking God’s guidance in their living. Jesus models spiritual direction as he guided people toward living in abiding relationship with God and invites us to discover the Holy Spirit in our midst.
Spiritual direction provides safe and contemplative space for a person the ‘pilgrim’, to meet about once a month with a ‘guide’, who will accompany them on their faith journey. Spiritual direction nurtures the desire to be led by the Holy Spirit as a fundamental aspect of Christian faith. Paul reminds us in his letter to the Romans: ‘For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God’ (Rom. 8: 17).
Spiritual direction is re-emerging as a significant area of ministry in the Uniting Church. If you would like to find a spiritual director to meet with monthly, contact Joan Wright Howie, CTM Spiritual Formation Advisor, who will arrange a time to meet with you and link you with a local Spiritual Director.
